Govt. boosts typhoon services in foreign languages

出典元 NHK World

Japan’s government is boosting information services in foreign languages about the approaching typhoon Hagibis and possible disruptions of transportation. The move comes as Japan is attracting record numbers of tourists from overseas.

Telephone consultations in English, Chinese and Korean will be available at the Japan National Tourism Organization. The number is: 050-3816-2787. Information on evacuation areas will be provided on mobile phone apps. and social media.

Additional staff with foreign language abilities have been deployed at major airports. Emergency power sources and mobile phone chargers are being set up at tourist information centers across the country.

When typhoons and earthquakes hit Japan last year, many foreign tourists were stranded at airports and resorts and complained about a lack of information. The government hopes the measures taken this year will help ease those concerns.
